Shades of Black: A Thought in Progress is a play written by Khadijah Ali-Coleman


Shades of Black: A Thought in Progress opened on Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at Morgan State University's University Student Center Theater and ran for three sold-out shows.

The play addresses a young adult's complex thoughts about identity, relationships, black consciousness and purpose.


The play's first production was produced by Morgan State University's Office of Residence Life and directed by Khadijah Ali-Coleman who was working at Morgan at the time as an administrator of academic enrichment program and the Assistant Director of Residence Life. The play was used as a tool to engage both Theater and non-Theater students in a project that allowed them to express themselves creatively while participating in supplemental academic enrichment activities.
